Picking a Texas Holdem Poker Room

There are many important factors to look for in an online Texas Holdem Poker Room these include site population, Deposit and Reload Bonuses, quality of players, player rewards, freeroll tournaments, and interface quality.

Site Population – Site population is an important factor because you want a wide selection of tables to play on. The bigger the population the quicker you can get on your tables and start playing and the less likely players will get to know you and your style of play.

BonusesDeposit and Reload Bonuses act as just that; extra “bonus” income that can help increase your monthly winnings by hundreds of dollars or more. Two Poker Rooms who offer frequent reload bonuses are Full Tilt Poker and Ultimate Bet.

Player Quality – The quality of your opponents also plays a big factor. If your opponents are good it becomes harder to win. Luckily the majority of sites have terrible players at low no-limit games. Until you get to higher stakes this shouldn’t be a factor. Personally we play on Full Tilt Poker and have found the player quality to be poor.

Player Rewards – Player rewards or player loyalty programs can be another small bonus each month. Depending on the poker room you can earn player points, entries to tournaments, and more. Party Poker and Full Tilt Poker both have great point stores where you can buy iPods, televisions, poker books, poker chips, and more.

Freeroll Tournaments – There are two different types of Freeroll tournaments. You can earn either money or entry into another tournament; both have there advantages. Freeroll tournaments for money aren’t going to win you much however they can be a great way to jumpstart your bankroll so you never have to invest a penny. Freeroll tournaments for entry into another tournament are long shots but you can win entry into big money tournaments. Full Tilt Poker even has freerolls to win entries into poker after dark, and the world series of poker. For a list of freeroll tournaments currently running be sure to check out our freerolls page.

Interface Quality – Interface Quality is another huge factor. When playing at a poker room you should look for an interface that is easy to use and bug free. You also should be looking for an interface that plays quick.

Switch Sites -- Since you won’t be putting money in the pot unless you have a big hand it is important that other players don’t get to you too well. If you start to think players are folding against your raises because they know you are tight it is time to switch sites.

Now you know what you should be looking for in a poker room make sure to check out our Poker Room Reviews page to find a Poker Room that fits your style. Once you find a Poker Room you may also want to read our guide on Picking a Texas Holdem Table.
